The BMW E30 is one of the most recognisable and highly regarded model series in the marque’s history. Introduced in 1982, this generation continued BMW’s tradition of compact sporting saloons while establishing one of the most iconic cars of the 1980s. The 323i represents the early era of the E30, preceding the introduction of the first M3 in 1986, and was one of the sportiest versions in the E30 range at the time. Its lightweight, compact body combines BMW’s characteristic naturally aspirated inline-six, rear-wheel drive and manual transmission.

This example is a 1983 BMW 323i, delivered new in Finland by Veho. Its 2.3-litre six-cylinder engine produces 150 hp and is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The combination perfectly represents the recipe that has made six-cylinder BMWs of this era so sought after among enthusiasts. The car was registered as a historic vehicle in March 2025, and has covered very limited mileage since. Classic Data has awarded the car a condition rating of 2+, stating: “The overall appearance of the car is excellent and deviations are very minor.”

The car has an interesting Finnish history. When new, it was featured as the cover car of Tuulilasi magazine. Over the years, the car had moved away from its original appearance, after which the previous owner acquired it in 2020 and began an extensive project to return it to a period-correct specification.

Between 2020 and 2025, the car underwent extensive restoration, with the body and mechanical components thoroughly gone through. The new paintwork is in excellent condition, and the overall finish is of a high standard. The seats have been reupholstered in BMW’s original anthracite Houndstooth fabric. A large number of model-specific parts were sourced as part of the project, and comprehensive documentation covering the work carried out and parts purchased accompanies the car.

The exterior is finished with BMW’s M-Technic body kit. The overall appearance is complemented by period-correct 16-inch BBS RS-style wheels and the sought-after BMW Gelb Optik front headlights. Inside, the Recaro-style sport seats add to the character, while equipment also includes a sunroof.

The result is a striking and distinctive early-production E30 323i, combining the classic BMW inline-six, 5-speed manual transmission, M-Technic styling and an interesting Finnish history. This extensively restored and historically registered example offers an excellent opportunity to acquire one of the most interesting six-cylinder versions of BMW’s 1980s range.
